Road to East Lake 5K offers runners unique opportunity to run through the historic East Lake Golf Course

To commemorate the East Lake Foundation’s 20th anniversary, the foundation announced today a partnership with the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola to host the Road to East Lake 5K. The start and finish lines will be at Charles R. Drew Charter School and runners will weave through the beautiful East Lake community. The route will also offer participants the unique opportunity to run through the front nine holes of the historic East Lake Golf Club, home of the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola, which takes place Sept. 24-27, 2015.

The East Lake Foundation provides residents in Atlanta’s East Lake community with the tools to build a better life for themselves and future generations through a three-pillar model: cradle-to-college education, affordable mixed-income housing and community wellness initiatives.

The TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola is the finale of the PGA TOUR’s FedExCup Playoffs, featuring the top 30 PGA TOUR professionals in the FedExCup standings. In 2014, the TOUR Championship by       Coca-Cola made contributions totaling more than $2.2 million to charities and proudly supports the East Lake Foundation and The First Tee. In total, since 1997 the TOUR Championship has generated more than $24 million to charity, both locally and nationwide.

“It is an honor to have this opportunity to partner with the PGA and TOUR Championship teams,” said Danny Shoy, President of the East Lake Foundation. “We are excited to showcase the transformation that has taken place in the East Lake community over the past twenty years.”

The TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola will offer all race participants the exclusive option to purchase Good-Any-One-Day Grounds Tickets to the tournament at a discounted price of $50 (a savings of $22). With this ticket, fans have the flexibility to choose which day (Wednesday – Sunday) to attend the tournament. In addition, all youth ages 18 and younger receive complimentary admission when accompanied by a ticketed adult.

“The Road to East Lake 5k is the continuation of an incredible partnership with the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola and the East Lake Foundation,” said Tom Clark, Executive Director of the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola. “It is a great honor to be a small part of what the East Lake Foundation has been able to accomplish in this community. We are happy to give special savings to any race participants that support the East Lake Foundation, and to continue to give back to such a remarkable charity.”

About The East Lake Foundation

Founded in 1995 on the belief that everyone deserves a chance to succeed, the East Lake Foundation collaborates with public and private organizations to provide tools that enable Atlanta’s East Lake residents to build a better future through its model for community revitalization.

The East Lake model includes cradle-to-college education at Charles R. Drew Charter School and its early learning partners, mixed-income housing at The Villages of East Lake and community wellness through programs including The First Tee® of East Lake, the Resident and Community Support Program, the East Lake Community Learning Garden, Start ME: East Lake micro-entrepreneur program and East Lake Healthy Connections. This approach to building a strong community not only helps break the intergenerational cycle of poverty, but creates a place where people of all ages and incomes choose to live.
