East Lake Foundation Receives $75,000 from Walmart Foundation to Improve Economic Stability

August 29, 2014 – The East Lake Foundation today announced it received a $75,000 contribution to improve employment and financial stability in the East Lake community. The grant, which was given through the Walmart Foundation State Giving Program, will be used by the East Lake Foundation’s Resident & Community Support Program (RCSP) to provide education and support through a career development series, financial literacy and home buying workshops, entrepreneurship classes, and interviewing opportunities with employers.

“We are grateful to the Walmart Foundation for renewing their support through this generous grant,” said Daniel Shoy, Jr., president of the East Lake Foundation. “With Walmart’s support, the Resident and Community Support Program will help adults secure employment and improve their families’ economic stability, advancing the East Lake Foundation’s mission to end intergenerational poverty.”

The East Lake Foundation provides residents of the East Lake community in Atlanta with the tools to build a better life for themselves and future generations through a three pillar model: cradle-to-college education, affordable mixed-income housing and community wellness initiatives.

“Walmart is excited to provide continued support to the East Lake Foundation and its impactful programs,” said Glen Wilkins, director of public affairs and government relations at Walmart. “The grant will help adults who live in The Villages of East Lake achieve employment, realize career advancement and improve their financial security.”

Walmart awards grants to organizations that have a long-lasting, positive impact on communities across the country. In Georgia, a team of local associates determine needs within the state, review eligible grant applications and make funding recommendations to the Walmart Foundation. To be considered for support, prospective grantee organizations must submit applications through the Walmart Foundation State Giving Program’s online grant application. Eligible applicants must have a current 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status in order to meet the program’s minimum funding criteria. Additional information about the program’s funding guidelines and application process are available online at http://foundation.walmart.com/apply-for-grants/state-giving.
