The First Tee of Metro Atlanta is working toward increasing the involvement of girls to diversify the program.
Marvin Hightower, the Executive Director of The First Tee of Metro Atlanta said “there are some new and special things that we are trying to do” to recruit girls into the program. Right now, about 41 percent of the participants of the First Tee of Metro Atlanta are girls.
The First Tee of Metro Atlanta youth program provides life skills and golf training for children ages 8-18.
Brittny Lott, a coach with The First Tee, said “I can successfully say that the girls’ program has steadily increased probably every year. I can also say the involvement of the girls has also steadily increased every year”
For girls interested in golfing, Lott said “They should try it with friends, try fun venues such as Top Golf, and lastly look at the statistics.” For Coach Lot, golf gave her opportunity. She was able to get five scholarship offers for golf in one day.
The First Tee’s Session 3 for golf training starts Sept. 4.
