Nonprofit takes over Atlanta high school turnaround

In the latest push of a pioneering attempt to revive failing schools, Atlanta Public Schools turned over Carver High School to outsiders who restructured it and hired new teachers. APS handed over Carver operations this year to the nonprofit Purpose Built Schools Atlanta, a spin-off of the well-regarded Drew Charter School.

2019 PGA Tour Championship date at East Lake set

The PGA Tour Championship in Atlanta, moves to August in 2019. The golf season’s final tournament will be played Aug. 19-25, 2019, at the East Lake Golf Club’s manicured grass. The move is part of the tour’s revamped 46-tournament schedule for next season, announced Tuesday.

The sender was Charlie Yates, then an executive with Zurich Insurance, the title sponsor of the PGA Tour’s event in the Big Easy. He was also the man behind the revitalization of one of the worst neighborhoods in America, the crime-ridden and crumbling East Lake section of Atlanta.
