The historic East Lake Golf Club and The Charlie Yates Golf Course have promoted three long-term employees, Drew Dunn, Jeff Dunovant, and Charles Harrison to new leadership positions.
PGA Professional Drew Dunn has been promoted to Head Golf Professional at East Lake Golf Club. A native of Atlanta, Dunn began his career at East Lake in 2006 as a member of the golf services staff and soon learned his true passion for the game and business of golf. He was promoted to Assistant Professional in 2008 and then to First Assistant Professional in July 2012. He is a Class A Member of the PGA of America. Dunn will be responsible for the management of the Club’s golf department including golf operations, caddie operations, and locker room operations.
“As we move into our 20th year, Drew is the ideal choice for this important position at the Club,” said Chad Parker, General Manager of the East Lake Golf Club and the Charlie Yates Golf Course. “He has the experience and the leadership ability to ensure the Club continues to be a premier golf club in the United States.”
PGA Professional Jeff Dunovant has been promoted to Head Golf Professional/Assistant Director for The First Tee® of East Lake at the Charlie Yates Golf Course. Jeff Dunovant and his father, Harold Dunovant, are the first and only African-American father-and-son PGA members. He is certified by the National First Tee and the PGA, and recognized by both for his many accomplishments. Dunovant will be responsible for the management of the Charlie Yates Golf Course, including course operations, golf administration, player development and retail management. He’ll also continue to be responsible for training and instruction, community outreach and volunteer coordination for The First Tee of East Lake.
“Jeff’s immense experience with the Charlie Yates Golf Course both as a PGA professional and as the Assistant Director of The First Tee of East Lake for the last 10 years gives him the perfect foundation to lead operations at the Charlie Yates Golf Course,” said Chad Parker.
In January 2015, Charles Harrison, Georgia Golf Hall of Famer, will join the East Lake Golf Club staff as an East Lake Ambassador. Harrison, an East Lake resident who has been affiliated with East Lake since the 1940’s, will be available to speak to members and groups on the Club’s history and tradition. For the last 20 years, Harrison has served on the staff of the East Lake Foundation working with junior golfers. He was instrumental in creating the East Lake Junior Golf Academy, now The First Tee of East Lake, a cornerstone program of the East Lake Foundation, which has impacted more than 5,000 youth since its inception.
Located in Atlanta, the East Lake Golf Club is the home course of legendary golfer Bobby Jones and is the oldest golf course in the city of Atlanta. The Club is not only historic, but philanthropic as well. The 18-hole private golf course supported the East Lake Foundation’s bold redevelopment plan and has been the home for the annual TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola. The Club’s motto is “Golf with a Purpose” because proceeds from operations – more than $20 million to date – support the East Lake Foundation.
The Charlie Yates Golf Course at East Lake is a public 9-hole, Par 30, mid-length course with Bermuda fairways and Bent grass greens. Designed by famed golf course architect Rees Jones, The Yates Course offers a mix of challenging Par 3′s and 4′s and is located in the heart of Atlanta’s East Lake community.
The Yates Course is also home to the East Lake Foundation’s First Tee of East Lake, a year-round golf instruction and mentoring program that uses the principles of golf to enhance the academic achievement and life skills of children and youth in the greater East Lake community and at Charles R. Drew Charter School. East Lake is one of 10 Purpose Built Communities across the country, a holistic community revitalization effort based on mixed-income housing, cradle-to-college education and community wellness guided the East Lake Foundation.
